‘Tearmann Eanga’

Early Christian to modern period. Site is in maintained by MDC. Catholic and Church of Ireland graves present.

All that survives of this church ruin is the E gable wall, with a central window opening; the rest of the walls show only as an outline, 17m x 8.2m externally. The E wall is 1.05m thick, 7m long, 3m high internally & 3.5m externally. A rectangular stone wall surrounds the ruins, enclosing the graveyard, which contains headstones dating back to 1700s. The base of the hill the site sits on has been enclosed, although this may not be related to the church. This enclosure is formed by a bank 1.4m wide, between 2 ditches, the inner one 1.7m wide & 0.8m below the bank & the outer 1m wide, 1.4m below the bank & 0.2m deep. The early history of the church is obscure.
