Castledawson Cill Bhríde Burial Ground

On the NE side of a ridge, this graveyard is described in the OS memoirs as "an ancient burial ground known as Kille-Brieda...oblong in shape...46 x 41ft & about 4ft above the level of the field...the entire of it is occupied by ancient & modern graves...the modern graves are those of children..." The site survives as a circular platform, 14.3m x 14.2m diam. & 1m high. The scarp of the platform is revetted all round with stones. There are a number of stones in the interior, mostly earthfast grave markers. The owner said that the last burials were 50-60 years ago & added that Annahoorish House was traditionally thought to have been a Church or Abbey at some time & that this was its graveyard.
