• It's hard to image now how we have managed for so long without such a survey. I see it as an indispensable practical and pastoral tool for the parish and would recommend it wholeheartedly.
    Fr Oliver Crilly PP,
  • St. Augustine’s Church, Grand Parade, Derry Walls were approached by Leona McAllister of Discover Everafter regarding making the graveyard accessible for touristic purposes and also for online geneaological research.

The Church is situated right upon Derry Walls and the Graveyard is within the historic grounds where Colmcille built his first Abbey in Ireland and from where he sailed in 564 to Iona.

The graveyard contains the graves of the ‘movers and shaker’s who built the city and also has a history going back to the early Celtic Christian Church.

When Leona McAllister, the Director came and gave a presentation to Rev. Patricia Storey and myself, we were immediately impressed and captivated at what Leona and her company had achieved in other Graveyards throughout Ireland.  She gave a very comprehensive overview of what could be achieved in our Graveyard and we were immediately enthralled.

As a result of Leona’s enthusiasm and despite difficult economic times within the Church, the Rector and the Vestry decided that the digitization of the graveyard was a must, directly as a result of Leona’s expertise.  Subsequently,  Derry City Council Tourist/ Economic Department have informed us that they wish to assist us with some of the costs of the project.

The subsequent total professionalism which the company has displayed in all aspects of its dealings with St. Augustine’s has reinforced our decision and we are thrilled with the results.

We cannot speak too highly of the professionalism, accuracy and speed with which the company has assimilated the history of our graveyard.  Nothing was a bother to them regarding changes required from our end and they have worked tirelessly to ensure that the fascinating history of the Graveyard will be  available to a wider audience in a concise innovative way.

We are thrilled that ‘the wee church on the Walls’ is the first in Derry to avail of this fantastic service.

I would have no hestitation whatsoever  in recommending this company to anyone and I wish them well in all their future exciting endeavours.

  • Magherafelt District Council receives on a daily basis enquiries from all over the world from people tracing their ancestors and family history, our Council felt that an on-line solution was the way forward and took the decision to develop a resource that would make it very easy for anyone make an enquiry in their ancestors. We were pleased when local firm Discover Everafter won the tender to develop this resource and were very impressed with their skills and approach to this project. We have recently launched our on-line genealogy resource and have been referring enquires towards this portal. We have also received very good feedback from those using the resource and would recommend Discover Everafter to any Council or Church considering a similar project.

    Michael Browne, Magherafelt District Council,

    Douglas Mowbray,
  • Hi, normally, with my luck, resources I am looking for in a family search either are missing or don't exist. On your site both of the graveyards I was looking for were there, Greenlough and Portglenone. Excellent! Could I give some advice for the future. Wide views of some of the gravestone are good for giving a general appearance but if you want to zoom in on them the resolution is not big enough to read the inscriptions. Some of the photos are taken at a downwards angle and again can make it difficult to read. Please take this as positive criticism - overall the work you have done so far is excellent. When are you getting to Milltown?! Regards, Ed. Morgan

    Ed Morgan,
  • WHEN O WHEN will you be surveying Deans Grange cemetery? As that is where my lot are buried. Keep up the good work, pat dublin

  • This is a great source of family information. Look forward to the births and marriages which I hope will be soon. Also hope all Parishes and religions take up this valuable opportunity of our History.

    Mary Mc Erlean,
  • "As one who is often called "An ambassador of the dead", I indeed very much appreciate organizations or group who are concerned with better living conditions for the dead. Pushing for better resting conditions for the dead, treating the dead with reverence ,respect, decency, pushing boundaries to create better resting conditions for the dead and related matters and more are part of my daily routines. Looking forward to having a working relationship with Everafter in the nearest future. keep up the good work.

Olatunji OkusanyaII...( An Ambassador for the dead),
  • Fantastic....I have access to nearly all my deceased relatives in the new St Josephs RC graveyard Killeenan Ireland

  • What a fantastic website. Leona was a star, so helpful and friendly. What a wonderful way to leave flowers at our loved ones grave when we can't visit for whatever reason. I would 100% recommend using this service. Thanks Leona and Good luck. Michelle, Andy and Zoe (Blackpool)

    Michelle Stout,
  • Just found this website as I see you're up for an INVENT 2014 award, good luck! Fascinating site, great idea. Will you be adding more graveyards? I'm thinking of family plots in Fintona, Co Tyrone, specifically. Many thanks.

    Siobhan McGuigan,
  • Hi, I found your site today by accident and I think it is so beneficial and worthwhile. I tried to locate my grandparents graves which are located at Drumbo Holy Trinity, Ballylesson, Co.Down but it is not on the website. Will this be updated in the future as I have never been and would love to see it. There surname was Connery. Many Thanks, Hilary

  • It would be really great to see Carnmoney cemeteries included in this as well as Belfast burial grounds not covered by the city council site. Great resource!

    Lyndsey Colgan,
  • Hi great idea, pity you need to log in to see derry city cemetary though :( also would be good if you could include the graves within the grounds of Long Tower RC church in Derry, I think the graveyard is COI.

  • I recently arranged through Leona and Ryan to have flowers and a note placed at my newly-discovered family's site at Dougher Cemetery. I am so deeply grateful for the incredible service that was provided to me by Leona and Ryan. The silk flowers were absolutely gorgeous, and the note that I had typed had, in turn, been handwritten, and placed in a protective transparent covering and attached to the flowers, which were then placed at the family site at the Dougher Cemetery. Four beautiful pictures were taken of the flowers and note in front of the headstone, and then e-mailed to me, thousands of miles away. Leona and Ryan couldn't possibly have been more kind, professional or helpful, every step of the way. This is an amazing, thoughtful service that Leona and Ryan offer. As I live thousands of miles away, I knew that I would not be able to visit there myself in my lifetime. This was deeply meaningful to me, and I am so appreciative of Leona and Ryan, who deserve highest possible praise. Thank you so very, very much! My very best to you ... Karen
